Referbishment of the Education Building
Some of you have been asking what exactly is being done to the education wing at the Church, so I want to update everybody on the remodeling of the education wing. Rooms 1 and 2 were damaged quite extensively by the hurricane. The roof was damaged above those rooms which let water come in and damage the interior ceiling tiles. The wind also knocked a lot of ceiling tiles down to the floor in those rooms. Our original plan was to tear down the entire middle education wing and build a multipurpose metal building in its place, but after consideration, that did not take place. The trustee committee voted to fix and remodel the education wing instead.
First the roof was repaired so it does not leak. The whole wing had a drop down tile ceiling and an acoustical tile ceiling above that. We are removing both ceilings and putting up a sheetrock ceiling in the whole wing. Some painting has taken place already and more will be done as soon as the ceiling is finished. Some new flooring will be put in. What we currently call room 2 will be split into two rooms, a new ADA compliant men's bathroom and a new ADA women's bathroom that will be closer to the Sanctuary, with air-conditioning. The double door between rooms 1 and 2 will go away and the opening sealed off. And the 2 doors for room 2 will be replaced with 36" doors in order to make our new restrooms ADA compliant. Room 6 will have a new wall built in the middle of the room to divide the room into 2 separate classrooms called room 6 and 7. The existing men's and women's restrooms close to the fellowship hall will become a closet for room 6. There will be 3 windows taken out of the new restrooms and on the 1069 side of the education wing, hardie plank siding will be installed. Painting will take place in all the rooms to make them look better. Also new electrical outlets will be installed in some of the rooms.
If anybody has any questions about the remodel, just call or ask me, and I will be glad to answer any of your questions.
